By the time of DP's international release, the DS sold 50 million units.
DP sold around 17.5~ million sales.
The argument of a console seller are demonstrably not true, Pokémon generally tends to ride on a consoles success rather than selling them (at least since the DS). For refenrence, RS are the best selling Gameboy games and are more than probably the main console seller of that Gen since they also came reliavily early in the consoles life.
This is not the case for any Pokémon game since Diamond and Pearl. If we readjust everything, the Nds sold 130 million units compared to the switch's 125 million units.
By accumulating sales (of the mainline games) we have:
- Around 60 million for the DS, in Pokémon games.
- Around 95+ million for the switch, in Pokémon games.
Only taking into account mainline games, developed and released by gamefreak, SV is only 6 month it it's lifespan for sales. You have more people owning a Pokémon game for the switch, than people owning Pokémon for the DS. this video and the original post only make points out of emotion and not really by looking at what reality and the actual numbers says.
