I fucking loved SMRPG as a kid. I put so many hours into this game because, at the time, there really wasn't any other Mario game like it. The visuals and music really brought this charming game to life, as did the writing and characters. Yeah, the RPG mechanics were pretty simplistic, and the platforming basically non-existent (and probably should've been given how wonky it felt), but damn did I ever enjoy the absolute fuck out of this game from start to finish. I thought the rumors were too good to be true that this would be the SNES remake, but I can't tell you how excited I am this is happening.

Mario RPG remakes usually change absolutely nothing about the base game but still manage to breathe a breath of fresh air into the games while remaining faithful. The two Mario & Luigi remakes (RIP AlphaDream) were like this, and the new Mario RPG remakes seems to be like this too. Remakes like these that are both faithful to the original AND actually good just make BDSP look really bad in comparison

Bro I didn't even mention Geno specifically. I wasn't one of those guys pounding the desk for Geno to be in Smash or begging for a remake/sequel just for Geno. I love SMRPG for the complete package. November can't come soon enough.

One of the few things Square Enix is still good at is remaking old games in great artstyles. Honestly Nintendo look like chumps in comparison.

BDSP is somehow the better looking of the three. Despite being blatantly rushed and made from a more recent game.

even if that were true (it isn't, it was very obviously so they could cut costs and make up a PR excuse justifying it) that doesn't make it any better
no dev worth their shit should be intentionally neutering their own games for any reason. the game looks the way it does because they know they can get away with it, not because "oh they're trying to HONOR gamefreak!!" especially considering they did not have that sort of issue with any other game in the series
