The writers couldn't reconcile the trio parting with TR.
That would have required them having a redemption arc.
James with his Arcanine would have been a better fit than Alain to beat Ash in the Kalos league (would have been hillarious).
Jessie slowly becoming an elite ghost specialist would have been rad too.
