Starting towns before were just small little squares. It's simple and easy to remember, which is especially important for something that you're not gonna spend much time in.
Include BW2's starting town and I guarantee people won't care for it as much as Nuvema despite being in the same gen.

It's just association with something people like. I'm noticing more lately. A lot of people saying things like "pokemon designs took a downfall after gen 5" or "music took a downfall after gen 5", both things that no one would ever say 10 years ago, but now are regarded as common consensus (obviously fueled by Dexit)

Pokémon fell off with the 3DS, that's why. Unova is looked at fondly with nostalgia now yet XY still gets shit on despite being only 2 years apart from BW and 1 from its sequel. You'll probably see nostalgia for XY eventually, but it's going to be akin to "Yeah they weren't the best games, but I have fond memories of them".

Don't get me wrong, it was obviously appreciated and it deserves praise. It's just that now there's the label that everything after is "the worst", and revisionism on the behalf of soundtracks like XY/ORAS. I've seen people say it for character designs, musicals, even people gushing over Dream World.

And BW received a 40/40 perfect score by Famitsu (only achieved by 14 other games) yet that didn't stop the games from being controversial amongst the fanbase when fresh. No one cares about your Pokemon critic scores which were obviously riding the wave of "revolutionary 3D" hype with XY, coping kalosfaggot. Hasn't the metacritic score for it been decreasing over the years as well? Funny how the trajectory in reception for Gen 5 has been the opposite.

B2W2 isn't really a quick fix version, it's an extension of the plot. They backpedaled on having all new Pokemon until the postgame because that was very unpopular. And like all previous 3rd versions they enhanced the various UI things and added more side quests and postgame content.

Z got canceled because GF was working on a non-Pokemon game that ultimately didn't go anywhere, and when they would've got around to Z it was time to move on to Alola.

battle maison is not the pinnacle of post game content but it is by no means bad
there are much much worse battle facilities in this series
look at RS and SWSH battle towers for example
SV literally doesn't even have one
i am basing this off my experience with it in ORAS btw because i have not played XY

Nuevma is the only one that's a proper town really. Iki is comfy but suffers from Gen 8s geography so it's real small and not in a lived in kinda way.
This is a moot point since Asperita clears all 4
