At higher levels, I think it knocks you down based on how many panels you flipped before you hit a Voltorb.
Hit Voltorb first or second?
Highly likely Get slammed back to level 1.
Hit Voltorb third or fourth?
Likely to lose about 2-3 levels, and so on.
And sometimes, you don't lose a level at all if you manage to only fuck up at the end. the game can be pretty forgiving.
And yeah, I consider Voltorb Flip a lot faster and more consistent for getting coins than the slots as well.
