Yeah, there was so much more exploration in the 2D games where a "route" was a 5 meters long corridor and a cave was 3 rooms the size of a kitchen.
There is more to explore in S/V than in any previous Pokemon game.
But as always, nostalgia-based opinions never make decent arguments.

There really isn't all the much to explore in Scarlet and Violet. thhe geography of Paldea overall is pretty flat and uninteresting. It also feels pretty small in my opinion. You can get from one end of the map to the other in less than 5 minutes

Any other game would have made this a side quest and given you a list of which ones you have and haven't seen, some kind of reward for finding them, a big reward for finding all of them, and maybe either marked them on your map or given you hints to find them. There should have been a legendary pokemon tied to finding them. Instead we got nothing, because this game is unfinished.

I feel the overworld at least in the base game is too big but there's nothing encouraging you to explore, just mindless textures in a sea of nothing

I find the three dragon sisters are the only thing memorable in paldea, but just like the game itself in ends in absolutely nothing

I disagree. I had a fun time exploring the region and running into things that likely would’ve never found without going through a guide. Like the waterfall that leads to the cave housing one of the Ruins. Or the cave in Area Zero that houses Roaring Moon.

Paldea really suck as a region, there's fuck all to discover on the map and 90% of it is boring plains and deserts. I hope they scale back the open world aspect and maybe take the Legends route going forward, that game was a lot more fun to explore
