>>53993979Tyranitar was THE Godzilla mon for twenty years until literally my mom’s Gojira Baxcalibur dethroned it. That’s reason enough for most people. That it’s the face of the new Dark type just gives it extra Hot Topic appeal that will carry on for many more years to come.
Furthermore it got a big signal boost from the Larvitar arc in the anime. Larvitar got more screentime than any other Pseudo until Gible in DP nearly seven years later.
In Gen3, its appearance as the final boss of Colosseum and the debut of Sand Stream along with it put it on the same level as Groudon and Kyogre and their weather-setting abilities, strongly emphasizing the Legendary in Pseudo-Legendary in ways that no other pseudo has been allowed to do so since.
In Gen4, it became the face of the physical/special split and the poster child for the new tier of power provided by moves like Stone Edge and a buffed Pursuit.
In Gen5, Tyranitar was the face of the Weather Wars, and it got a Mecha Godzilla cameo in the Bollywood minigame just to round out over a decade of Godzilla comparisons at that point in time.
In Gen6, it got a Mega and after that it doesn’t get much else in the years since, but that’s still fourteen years in which Tyranitar was front-and-center paving the way in every major shakeup to the game’s formula. Whenever Tyranitar shows up, everyone knows.
There’s simply more reasons to love Tyranitar, regardless of whichever part of the franchise you latch onto. Tyranitar has the sheer PRESENCE and staying power that other designated marketing mons dream of. For those who like it, it’s perfect in nearly every way.
