>>54013597With regards to world-building, I think a lot of fans would equate the Primary Type as encompassing what the Pokemon "is", whereas the Secondary Type elaborates on the species' additional characteristics.
For example: Charizard is Fire/Flying. This is a species that has attributes associated primarily with fire elementals. Hot, breathes fire, uses flame-related powers, and even has an eternal flame blazing upon its tail tip. However, the Flying Secondary Typing demonstrates that Charizard's body grew and adapted for midair action after evolving from Charmander and Charmeleon. Thus, it learned how to incorporate aerial techniques and wind-based powers after evolving. A similar phenomenon can be observed with Bagon, Shelgon, and Salamence. Dragon, Dragon, Dragon/Flying.
But, again, that's really just head-canon from the fans. GF never really cared about the ordering of Pokemon typings nor developing this as an aspect of Pokemon biology. It rarely means anything in gameplay, and nothing in lore.
