incense weren't the problem, the real problem as Baby Pokemon, It was bad enough when Game Freak wasted extremely limited dex space on the damn things in Gen 2, but they couldn't take the hint and kept adding more necessitating incense

I feel like everything related to C-Gear in Gen 5 very silly. I'm not totally "glad it's gone" (even if most people would agree that PSS was nothing but an improvement) but I wish it didn't exist in the first place. HGSS had great bottom screen usability and C-Gear killed it.

Johto could be forgiven to some extent if you accept baby Pokemon as growing pains due to Game Freak having inexperience with how to handle new Pokémon (even if the Gen 2 babies caused Game Freak themselves to undervalue Gen 2). Hoeen continuing babies was stupid but at least it only had 2. But what the fuck where they thinking adding even more with Sinnoh

No. The incenses were the problem. There's nothing wrong with pre-evolutions in itself and there's more to Pokémon than just fully-evolved mons fighting out in competitive e-sports. If that's the only thing you want out of Pokémon, we might as well get rid of evolution as a mechanic and dexcut all not fully evolved Pokémon.

It was in Gen 2. I don't remember the exact reason but they only had room for 252 Pokemon total (151 went to Gen 1 Pokemon, and 1 space had to be left over for the Egg. That only left 100 spaces for new Pokemon.

With PokéPelago I could at least do something else in the game while growing berries, giving Pokémon EXP, EVs, and Friendship without grinding, and hatching eggs without going in circles. Why did they have to kill that? It was the best thing they've done in Gen 7.

In my Pokemon tabletop campaign, we use incenses to give effects to your side of the battlefield like reflect, but they're consumed by burning them in incense lanterns.
Sages use them.
It's insane how much trainer class variety could expand these games

I've said it before and I'll say it again, when Gen 3 re-did the Pokemon data structure, they should have had field move usability tied to species instead of to a move. Wasting a move slot on Cut or Strength sucks, having a single Pokemon on your team capable of cutting things or being strong is just reasonable teambuilding. It's not like HM moves didn't have really broad distribution or anything, Tauros and Furret cat learn Surf for some reason.

My biggest problem with Kalos I can remember, outside of its forgettability(seriously, I watched some college kid play that game through, and then years later got to play it myself, and I STILL don't recall much about it,) was the amount of gift Pokemon.
ESPECIALLY gift Pokemon that I could've caught and trained prior to actually obtaining the gift Pokemon. That fucking Lucario was uncalled for, I already had a Riolu who evolved damn it.

kalos only has three gift mons: the kanto starter, the lucario, and the lapras.
three is pretty normal too, the real standouts are platinum with four and crystal with SEVEN.

The difference here is that all of XY's gifts are story-related and 2/3 of them are incredibly powerful and come with their associated mega stone that is ready for use right away.
Now Kenya can fuck up the game, but the 2 eggs require some work to raise, Shuckie is a Shuckle, Tyrogue requires you to backtrack deep into an optional area, and the Dratini is also right before the League.

Gen 3 Wobbuffet's entire moveset was Counter, Mirror Coat, Safeguard and Destiny Bond. But Wynaut had a different moveset which included the incredibly useful Encore. Meaning that a Wobbuffet you raised from a Wynaut egg was way more useful than one you caught in the wild.

Eggs should have been never a thing. Togepi should have been the only egg you get in Gen 2, baby Pokémon should have been just new pre evolutions. Every Pokémon laying eggs is just weird. You should have been always be able to use your play through bros for tournaments and battle facilities with post game upgrades á la ability patches. The DLC better really have a PKHeX-like feature.

Especially nowadays HMs coming back would be literally non-issue between both PC and move deleter being so damn easily to access.

Speaking of Gen 4 and it's exploration - Every person that worked on Sinnoh games deserve to be slapped for shit like snow, swamp and fog. These things provide absolutely fucking NOTHING besides slowing down movement to literal crawl. It's especially awful with how much backtracking is needed in Sinnoh.

Compare that to Johto where besides Azalea and Goldenrod (which actually is annoying, considering that both these locations have things you want to do daily) everything is perfectly connected and you never really get stuck just because game devs hated players.

Ideally, baby Pokemon would be used to have an early game option for Pokemon that are otherwise relegated to mid or late game.

Take Dondozo for example. Because of its stats and large size, every time it is in a Pokemon game, it's always going to be related to a late game encounter. Giving it a pre/baby evolution would allow a player to get one earlier if they so choose to do so.

But this is Game Freak after all and the execution wasn't always the concept.

Ideally, baby mechanics would be connected to some interesting side activities making idea of "raising your baby" more interesting than once a day giving them a haircute.
But even then compfags would screech about how everything that is not their thinly veiled RNG simulator is just "waste of time" and they need their "QoL", even if they ultimately will end just using pokehex to do everything.
