>>54028126People have differing opinions about games that are 24 years old (14 years old in Japan)? I never would've guessed! On a serious note, In the case of HGSS I'd agree that it's overrated (although GSC is slightly underrated). The Goldenrod Radio Tower plotline was a slog to get through and the grunts' levels were ridiculous low. Mt. Mortar is probably one of the most poorly constructed dungeons in any Pokemon game. The Safari Zone is needlessly complex. The Pokegear phone makes sense since it was there in the originals and it's also good for RNG autists like me since it advances the frame by 1, but for a casual player I'd imagine they'd consider it a downgrade from the VS Seeker in DPPt. They retroactively added Rock Climb from DPPt into HGSS which wasn't there the originals and no one in their right mind fucking asked for. The sprites are the same for both versions unlike in GS and the animations aren't even as soulful as Emerald's animations, let alone Crystal's animations. All of that is not to say they're bad games or bad remakes. Certainly not. Seafoam Islands, Cerulean Cave, and the original Viridian Forest all returned despite not being in GSC. They have an improved bag and box system and 493 Pokemon rather than 251 Pokemon by virtue of being Gen 4 games. They added the Pokeathlon feature, a Safari Zone and two more routes near Cianwood, and even the Sinnoh Battle Frontier (copy-pasted from Platinum, but a good addition nonetheless). There's some degree of feature bloat, but none of the features are necessarily bad. I just wish they made the main campaign better than GSC. For me the main campaign is worse than GSC even though the postgame is better. So I'd agree to some extent with people who say HGSS is overrated.
