The duality thing for box legendaries was introduced in Gen 3. I actually like that Ho-Oh and Lugia are two seperate entities that exist in one universe and have different backstories and locations tied to them. It makes them more memorable, compared to the Gen 3+ box legendaries, which are used more interchangeably. I wish they did something like Ho-Oh and Lugia again.

Ho-Oh is the single best box legendary, but Lugia is an afterthought even in his own game. It's weird how Ho-Oh is still the "main" legendary of the lore/world even in Silver

I like that. But it made more sense in the original GS than in HGSS where the box legendaries were just an optional side thing and you could get the other one in the post-game. Plus, Lugia still has an awesome design, it especially looks good in its HGSS sprite.

Dialga/Palkia were ok
Zechrom/Reshiram are too fucking similar
Xerneas/Yveltal look good
Solgaleo/Lunala I like quite a bit despite never playing their games.
Dogs are shit
Dragon bikes are meh. Miraidon is ok I guess.
No idea how any of them were competitively as I never followed the scene until this year but design wise this is how I feel about them.
Also Lugia > Ho-oh

Cool art, and agreed. Lugia is such an amazing design. That is peak Pokemon. And while Ho-Oh didn't stand out as much for me in comparison, it's still really elegant and breathtaking.

The Lugia and Birds blurbs are for the movie, you'll notice that all of the game screenshots show the Ho-Oh title screen and are labeled "Gold" and "Silver"
This is also corroborated by the beta leaks not having Lugia present in-game at all until the very last 1999 build
