Shiny hunting is dead in this gen because one dumbass in GF thought it was a genius idea to design shitty shinies what don't look that much different from regular palette and excluding the QoL feature that Gen 8 had introduced just a few months earlier.

Shiny hunting has died, along with any form of meaningful transistion between map and battle screen.
What pumped dopamine to your monke brain during shiny hunting was that few seconds of uncertanity when encounter was slowly sliding on screen just to have that one per few thousands chance to look differently. It's the same mechanic that makes collectible card games and gacha (both as actual toy machines and mobage mechanic).
