>>54057502During dexit, most reasonable people were upset at Masuda for suddenly deciding that some Pokemon would just have to live in Home until he said so. This ballooned into people taking a critical look at Game Freak's incompetence for the first time, criticizing Gen 8's amateur look, animations, and so on.
Of course, there are people out there who make Pokemon their entire identity, and can't possibly imagine the concept of a Pokémon game being bad. They took these criticisms personally and made a point of pushing back against anyone who dared to suggest that Gen 8 looked bad. Joe Merrick was one of these rabid defenders, mostly because he had finally been getting recognition from GF at press events. The defenders took to Twitter in droves, forcing hashtags like #ThankYouGameFreak and #ThankYouMasuda, and telling anyone who voiced their concerns about Gen 8 to kill themselves.
However, the criticisms were still very loud, very ubiquitous, and very valid. The defenders were having a hard time making the criticism go away.
Then one day, a new Twitter account called AsaiFusayo appeared, claiming to be a GF employee. They detailed rape and harassment claims at the hands of Masuda, most notably saying that he forced her to insert bugs in her anus. It was, of course, a ridiculous story with no corroboration. But strangely, they added a reply to their own post with the #BringBackNationalDex hashtag. Why would they do that? The answer was to discredit anyone who criticized Gen 8. Defenders could point to this horseshit falseflag story and say,
>See! This is the average person who wants the National Dex back and says the game looks like shit! They're even stooping to making false rape claims!Thankfully, pretty much everyone saw through the attempt and realized what the Masuda dickriders were trying to do.
From there, it developed into the meme we know today, where Masuda angrily calls his greatest defender - Joe Merrick and threatens to put bugs in his anus.
