I don't think Scyther line should be considered as evolutions because nothing really improve when he evolves. Only his stat points got redistributed, and he gained new weaknesses as he changed types. Scizor and Kleavor are devolutions

I believe the point of that anon was, there is no such thing as devolution in nature. Species change, but there is no such thing as one stage being better than a previous one, or a previous one being better than the next, as the basis of evolution is an adaptation to the medium. If a species made it this far means all its stages were good enough for the species to survive through time.

But then again pokemon evolutions has little to do with darwinian evolution right?

Scyther is too strong to get boosted stats when it evolves. But it could get more minmaxed into a speedy physical attacker with that useless special attack. Drop it to 20, give 15 to speed and 20 to attack, and make the Flying type into Fighting, Water, Dragon or whatever, with Tough Claws.

Scyther keeps the same BST as its evos, so it’s not too bad because it’s one of the few Pokémon you don’t really actually have to evolve.

If it’s a linear line it can get pretty annoying, because speed is the best best stat in Pokémon. Especially in-game where walling and utility aren’t as necessary.

I think when it's done to an exhesive and drastic degree it becomes stupid. It feels as if every new evolution nowadays has been slower than its pre Evo or the same speed. Gen 7 was the worst of it but gen 8 and 9 still have some examples, especially with cross gen evos.
