I was watching youtube yesterday and realized something. Instead of doing those new shitty mechanics noone cares about, they should things up by taking ideas from old sets. For example, Dark and Light pokemon. Or gym leader pokemon. Wouldn't it be amazing? I know that would put a hard limit on some cards because Raihan's Goomy would only evolve into Raihan's Sliggoo, it would still make sets unique. We're only two sets into ex, and I've grown extremely tired of it already, it's like they only changed V to ex, added some more stats, and one passive ability.

I don’t like the soulless 3d art either - it doesn’t have the experimental techdream charm of old Kinebuchi, it’s just flat “product” - but the quality of the holo shininess is nice, and so is the art when they get a good artist on it.
It’s just not framed as nicely as old cards, the art really popped out and is accentuated by the simple old layout with the basic square borders and solid but subdued colors

Buying vintage is for fags, not because vintage is bad (vintage is great) but because the only way to do it without wasting money is to buy individual cards. If you're actually into this stuff for fun (ie pack-cracking) modernshit is your only reasonable choice.
I'll buy old shit if I see it at a thrift store/yard sale, and I'll pick up pre-sorts sometimes for the random 15-year old filler cards, but that's it.

I don’t really find it fun to reliably lose 95% of the value of a pack by opening it. But I do enjoy hunting down older, rarer cards, finding good deals, and gradually piecing together complete sets.

but buying singles IS fun, i like filling up my collection
buying packs is literally just gambling, which has its own fun factor to it, but i get more enjoyment out of getting the specific cards i want
i recently had the choice of either buying a bunch of packs or picking up a pop delta species mew with the misprinted back for like $40. ended up going with the mew, which is a card i love and i never wouldve gotten otherwise.
if i really want a modern card bad almost all of them are so extremely cheap that i can enjoy the hobby without opening.

people seem to forget tpci is extremely close with nintendo, the video game masters of artificial scarcity (Mario 2 and 3, SNES, Wii, amiibo, NES/SNES classic, Switch, etc etc etc)
they thrive off of making "collector's items" or the new hot toy hard to get so people can scalp, journalists discuss the scalping, companies like target/gamestop acting like theyre going to end the world, etc
if people thought rare cards were easy to pull and readily available, there'd be no value to modern at all

The other item you could look into is the swsh precious premium collection. But that might be too expensive now as well.

While people are holding it sealed, most people did not get one and they did not reprint it after the year was over. If you didn't get it then you never got a second chance. And with the ridiculous prices that the metal cards fetch when graded high, people will eventually buy these boxes just for a chance at grading a psa10 copy of the metal cards themselves.

The art style is reminiscent of many of the hand drawn/colored illustrations in the early gens. The framing is cropped, we don't see the full pokemon, something that rarely flies in modern cards, and the simple shapes used in the art call back to simpler styles.

frankly these $1 sleeves have way less sketchy packaging than the dragon shields I bought which actually did have blurry packaging and barcode.

For the sake of example, I bought a 1st ed shining Tyranitar ages ago, and I bartered the guy down significantly because the card has a tiny gash along the upper right rear corner. I guarantee, because of this, the card couldn’t grade higher than a 7. But it doesn’t really diminish eye appeal, since the damage is practically imperceptible (assuming you’re not actively looking for it) and on the reverse of the card.

If you could reliably find PSA 7s with that sort of wear, I’d say they’re easily the best price/eye appeal cards you could get. Unfortunately most 7s have holofoil that’s been scratched to shit.

It will be a part of my collection of toys i guess.
I was collecting just random cards before (gengar cards, cards of pokemon in cute situations/etc) but Lost Origin came out during very important time in my life and i remember pulling this card and that situation literally cured my heart like magic. Becuase this card looked like what was happening in my life (me standing in the middle of nowhere and trying to find a path to go).
And other pulls also were fun and memorable so i decided to finish Lost Origin.

Plus i think that this set has so many cool cards (giratina/pikachu/charizard/GENGAR/etc.) that it might be valuable in the future and help me if i will be in a bad situation and need money. but that's not the main reason i want to complete it.
PS:
I pulled Lugia from Silver Tempest. Wish i could just trade it for a few L.O. cards without all that shipping cost. oh well

SGC is definitely a real company and has a history of grading cards with high value. They are just a predominantly sports card grading company. They don't have "value" because they aren't one of the big 3 for pokemon grading, but they are legitimate and will definitely grade harshly -- as you experienced.

Has more to do with the storage of the sealed pack than you opening it. Have opened packs where all the cards were bent but looked perfect before opening, also gotten $10 cards that were already damaged with all other cards in the pack being pristine. You'll be happier forgetting about PSA autism and just enjoying the pack cracking and raw cards.
