I can't see them adding more types when the average player only knows super effective types because of the game text and have no idea why Dragon/Steel isn't weak to Fire or any other defenses

What would Cosmic type matchups be to make the game """more balanced"""?
Obviously it will be SE against Steel and Fairy and defensively be immune to Fairy and resist Steel and Bug, but what else?

Perfect opportunity to nerf/buff mons that need it, retcon and fix problematic type matchups, underwhelming dual type combos and aesthetically-incompatible design choices (Arceus, Heliolisk, Ult. Necrozma), gives Bug Mons the buff they need, btfo's Electric teams w/o reliance on Ground, ideal counter for cocky shitmons like Gaydhengo and the pdox fakemon

If we get another type, it will only be under 1 of 3 conditions in this order of likelihood

LEAST LIKELY

>They do add a 19th type but it's something really different, enough so that very few if any old Pokemon would be retyped and the door is wide open for new concepts (like Dark and Steel in Gen 2). For this the only "logical" choices are things like a Digital/Virtual type or maybe a Saint/Holy type...something they can't be done now, basically. This is hard because what's left to do that can't be done already by the existing types?

SORT OF LIKELY

>They revamp the entire type chart and a lot of Pokemon change types (they won't remove any of the 18 types, just tweak them enough to add a new one). We then get something like Cosmic, Sound, etc with a LOT of Pokemon ring retyped. This requires basically a "reset" of the entire Dex at that point, making it feasible but a huge undertaking they would need to really hope pays off

>They do another "Shadow" Pokemon gimmick and the new type is basically a "super" type that isn't really part of the normal type chart and has something to do with the generation's main gimmick. This is super simple and can be done with the same effort things like Megas and Tera took

This anon is correct. I'd even say that the last option is the only one that seems even remotely likely to me, which sucks because that would be a shit gimmick. I unfortunately do think that some "super type" nonsense or fusion are the most likely gimmicks for coming gens though
