Money, looks, (other coveted trait in society), aren’t everything which is correct; some problems are just universal, However the common platitude that money, looks, etc “don’t matter” is blatantly false. Even ignoring the fact the money is objectively need until certain point, society simply values you less if you lack money or looks.
Likewise In the most technical sense how good a Pokémon is in battle “isn’t everything” but it obvious matters since battling is the one of if not the most important aspects of game since it’s pretty much the only way to engage with your Pokémon. And it’s obviously important to Game Freak hence why the Pokémon they consider important are the first to get new moves, abilities, or power-up battle forms. On the opposite end “being a shitmon” or “worse version of another mon” is the most a common reason for a Pokémon is looked down upon. And even for the people who happen to be fans of a shitmon, their most common desire is for their favorite Pokémon to not be a shitmon anymore
