As someone who chose charmander as their first starter in Red as a kid I can say that I love Charizard, don't hate it, but understand why other people get mad because he is overshilled and it's sorta dumb that they don't give more of a spotlight to other generations (but I understand why they'd be scared to mess with what works). At least in Arceus they used new starters but in Gen 6 when Megas came out giving you Kanto starters with Megas was also sorta dumb because they overtook your whole team in usefulness.

Kanto starters are fine, but why give Charizard TWO and the other starters only one? An even bigger insult was in Gen 8, where Charizard was included from the start AND given its own Gigantamax form AND made the Champion's ace, while the other two were literally Dexcut until the DLC. Kanto pandering is a problem, but Charizard pandering is Kanto pandering on steroids. No one panders to Dewgong or Kabutops.
