The dub itself went to crap with the Mastermind Special, the fact it got worse than ever from XY to the end is just the cherry on top.

The fact that 4Kids did a better job than someone with a dub, should give everyone pause about TPCi's dubbing practices (dreadful).

Can we all admit the 4Kids dub was better in general? Voices, music, writing, OPs, it was superior. Pokémon was their magnum opus, not saying much but still, means something and the company's existence was worth it.

It's really, painfully obvious 4Kids cared more about the Ash anime & Movies than TPCi ever has, say whatever you will about the company and yes they messed things up elsewhere back when they were kicking-- but they at least made the English dub of Pokémon what it once was + popular overseas.

Everything after Advanced Battle for me for the dub, I sat through that crap but even as early as DP the dub had taken a nosedive in the voice acting & script writing even vs. AG.

Hard to believe Natochenny had close to twice as long as Ash, and Taylor was still the best English dub VA Ash had, as well.

There was nothing wrong with the 4kids dubs themselves, the main problem was that they had to censor due to FCC regulations along with having to be the baseline for international releases.

The voice acting was leagues better than what TPCi replaced it with, and they kept more of the OST in the original dub than the current dub overall did-- believe it or not.

Pretty much, and TPCi has now even censored things 4Kids left uncut/unedited in the old dub even in their final Season (4Kids let Ash freezing go in Season 8, TPCi just censored it in Season 25/26- not even a joke).

Pokemon is like the one Series that got a worse dub out of 4Kids' hands, go figure, TPCi can't dub things well.

I'm still salty "I Wanna Be A Hero" and "This Dream" never got official full-length versions. There isn't a single 4Kids OP Pokemon song that I find hard to listen to, but with TPCi, it's really hit-and-miss. TPCi's OPs also feel more... generic, I guess would be the word, than 4Kids songs. Like you wouldn't even know it was a song meant for Pokemon if they didn't haphazardly toss the word Pokemon in during the last line of the lyrics, or something. That being said, some of the songs are still really good, imo. Mainly what TPCi came up with for Black and White/Journeys. Don't care much for the others.

4Kids cared a lot more about the dub Series in general IMO, a lot of people think things would magically be solved without Goldfarb there (and he is indeed awful at what he does in terms of BGM, and most of his OPs are stinkers, including the last one they did), but TPCi now censors things even 4Kids had the sense to leave alone in their dub (Ash freezing, and Brock's maracas the most recent examples), replaced more of the OST, and the VA is still just so subpar/below average (agree with the people who said Eric Stuart's replacements were the overall worst though, 4Kids got Brock & James down really well at his best).

Kirby Right Back at Ya didn't keep any of the OST, but 4Kids kept a lot of the Japanese music in Pokemon Seasons 1-3 and Movies 4-8 (and still left a decent chunk elsewhere). The VA work IMO was largely better too (I don't get how people think Dedede was Lewis' best role but tbf Kirby was one of 4Kids' better shows as it was actually targeted at children, tbf, I can see it).

Yeah I remember as a kid looking up the first japanese Advanced theme and was shocked I could sing along with it because 4kids kept it. The TPCI dub of Pokemon cuts out a lot of the OST that was in the GAMES. The music is literally dogshit in the dub half the time.

Pretty much. The voice acting is still so grating, I know some people don't mind it, but it's such a step down from the previous cast. And the guy who took over as James, Meowth, and Oak literally destroyed Team Rocket's once funny and witty dialogue as the TPCi script writer: so much unfunny alliterations, slang, and shit from DP onward save BW.

Goldfarb did compose and write all dub openings from XY onwards with the exception of ‘the journey starts today’ and ‘with you’ so I’d say the intros would definitely improve if he gets booted. Maybe the background music wouldn’t be so shit either (I’d rather have the spastic violins from DP back than Goldfarb’s shit music)

Good points otherwise, though, will the voice acting get better without Lisa Ortiz in charge? She's not a good VA director, at all, keeps giving Pokemon dub voice that always kept their Japanese ones prior, but TPCi has always had subpar VA work so that's not a surprise.

My hope is with Cathcart gone, the script writing at least gets better for Horizons, but I doubt it: he's always been very unfunny & the slang/alliterations he introduced in the TPCi Era were grating.

The censorship returning is lame, and I hope it stops too in the new Series, plus keep the OST but both doubtful.

I despise every instance of the word "Hero(es)" in dubbed Pokémon, because it's such a generic word that has no impact or meaning. Why call the fifth movie Pokémon Heroes? What makes it Pokémon Heroes more than any other movie? Why is the tag line for the fourth movie "Best friends. Better heroes"? That sounds so bad, why would you put better after best? And once again, heroes is a nothing word while at least friendship is an important theme in the anime. What's all this "I want to be a hero" and "We can be heroes"? Ash wants to be a Pokémon Master, nobody has "hero" as a goal. The only time it ever sounds somewhat natural is the narrator saying "Our heroes" in every episode, but that's only because it's somewhat interchangeable with protagonists. A more accurate translation would be "Ash and friends" though.

I like the heroes thing, but I can understand that logic, I think heroes because protagonists was the logic for the fourth Movie and fifth Movie titles as well as for dub OPs 6 & 18. Dubbed Pokémon was bearable pre-TPCi, at any rate, IMO.

4Kids' best work was Pokemon in Anime dub realms, their best cartoon was TMNT 2003 otoh.
