However, as long as you make it clear what the intended experience is, there's nothing wrong with giving players options.
And you're wrong about people not knowing what they want from Pokemon. Most people here like Pokemon, in some form or another.
These people could actually be appeased with some pretty simple steps, established ones, that they could do, and they refuse to do so.
That's no longer in the real of players that don't know what they want the way you try to imply.
This is an established franchise and people do know what they want. Except the people that do in fact want something that's never been a part of the core experience, those can be ignored like you say.
