as the games have become an established franchise that are trying to take themselves more seriously in terms of strategy and competitive play it doesn't make sense to just have 'the shitmon type' anymore. dragon has been repeatedly nerfed so its more in line with the other types in terms of performance even if it has a ton of high BST pokemon. there are still plenty of workable bug type pokemon but they often have ridiculous abilities or movesets propping up the terrible typing. fairy being weak to bug was the most blatant free win for balancing but that ship has sailed
