It's literally the anime designs turned directly into life-like 3D models. They didn't really adapt the proportions, which is why it turned out so strangely.
It's faithful though, I'll give them that much.

The proportions are literally identical, they're just given a realistic paint coating. That's it. That's the ENTIRE reason why they look bad. If it weren't for the fact the proportions weren't changed, these things wouldn't look so jarring.

Hurling names now, are we? I'm no shill, but even I'll play devil's advocate. I never said these designs were GOOD, just WHY they were this way. I think a few worked(I liked Flareon,) but most didn't, and it's literally just because the proportions are all fucked.
I wished they hadn't gone with a live action adaptation of this game. I also wish they hadn't race swapped the main character. However, irregardless of my own personal wishes, this is what we ended up with, and there's no changing it now.
