I only dislike that the jewels aren't strictly naturally occurring phenomena. It doesn't feel right to see a candle for Fire or a flower pot for Grass or a lightbulb for Electric or a hatchet for Steel, etc. Like, Electric should have just been the lightning symbol for instance.
Mechanically it's fine. I could take or leave what >>54103782 said since it'd be a welcome change for less volatility, but I could also see reasons against it since it hurts surprise factor which players should be allowed to count on to encourage creativity.

That's right. Just make it so when a Pokemon usea secret power they mega-evolve, become gigachadmaxxed, change their type and use a super powered z move that deala 99999999 damage and has only 1/1 max PP, EXCEPT for Unown, which can use it as many times as it want.

Tera gives you STAB without changing your type. Same Type Tera simply gives the Adaptability boost. As well, Tera Blast always uses the Tera Type, even if not Terastalized. To balance it, the base power is reduced to 65.

I think a few things should be fixed. First, changing the Tera Type is WAY too tedious. It needs to be changed so you can just buy the Tera Meal for a decent price (like ¥4900 or so).

I also think more Tera Moves should be added alongside Tera Blast to be more creative. Tera Blast should also be reduced to 60 base power so Scizor gets a Technician Boost from it.

Other Tera moves I think should be added (All change from Normal type upon terastalization)

Tera Bite
Power: 50
Accuracy: 100
Sometimes flinches the target

Tera Rave
Power: 55
Accuracy: 95
High crit rate, hits both opponents in Doubles and all three in Triples

Tera Rush
Power: 90
Accuracy: 100
Does 1/8 HP recoil, always crits if user is Terastallized

Tera Storm
Power: 95
Accuracy: 100
Hits both opponents in Doubles and all three in Triples.

Tera End
Power: 120
Accuracy: 60
Does 1/2 current HP recoil to the user upon use if the move hits.

Tera Drain
Power: 70
Accuracy: 100
Drains 1/2 of the HP taken from target.

Tera Beam
Power: 150
Accuracy: 90
The user cannot attack next turn.

Tera Speedball
Power: ---
Accuracy: 100
Base power increases as the user's speed increases compared to the target. Max power, 150, is achieved when the user is much faster than the target.

Dynatera Boost
The user's tera type determines the effect; the effect corresponds to the type of the Max Move the tera type matches.

Remove the hats, show Tera types at all times, Tera boost is only 1.3 if it changes your type, if it's the same type as one of your types it gives the same buff

It's not an awful mechanic just too tacky and somewhat overpowered

Honestly, after noticing the similarities, I'd make it edgier. Make it more like tiberium, permanent mutations brought on by an alien crystal, that unlock powerful upgrades with reeling consequences.

I don't know how terastalizing actually works so :P

Therr now it's ballanced.
