>>54108026This may be a stupid genwar shitpost and some anons may jest, but I genuinely do have a problem with this. Whether the sprites were made first so that they'd be easy to animate and the art was based off of that, resulting in some very basic and lifeless poses in some cases, or the sprites were just based on simple art poses - it did some damage to the dex as a whole and the reception they received.
I always think of Pawniard, who for some reason is the only mon whose sprite is different from its art, and I try to imagine how much shitties its sprite would be if it shared its pose with the art. None of that battle ready, shivvy poke stance and animation - just sitting there bouncing with its arm out. The way it's presented in the art is perfect for a static image, the way it's presented in-game is perfect for an animated sprite. And that's how all the mons should have been.
So many Gen 5 Pokemon were seemingly designed with 3D in mind given that they had the 3D models all up and ready (as shown in the anime intro and Pokedex 3D) and have concepts that cannot be represented in a single sprite or piece of art and differentiating them between media was the one chance to showcase them that they failed to do. Samurott's swords, Excadrill's drill form, Golurk's flying/cannon form - all things that could have been shown off in one way or the other instead of just copying one asset from the other. Instead you had to rely on the anime or spin-offs to see them and there are people who, to this day, still get surprised by seeing some of the things Gen 5 Pokemon can do as it was just never properly showcased.
