Absol doesn't need an evolution, it just needs a few buffs. As a design it's already perfectly cool and an evolution would just make it look fat and retarded. It already has 130 attack, which is great. It should be a at least 500 BTS Pokemon instead of a 465 since it's a fan favorite. I don't see how it ever had less BST than the eeveelutions. Giving it 35 in speed and a few more moves would go miles towards making it more usable. It moves fast in the anime and looks like it should be fast, no way Absol should be stuck with 75 speed.

the only examples I can think of are Gigantamax Meowth, Pikachu and Eevee, but that came out after megas. Unless you count regional forms but there isn't a single regional form of a pokemon that evolves into a non-regional form or a new evolution, only the opposite happens (normal forms evolving into regionals)

Just make the megas of single stages and two stagers into the actual evolutions. If fucking Weavile/Wyrdeer/Kingambit/Dudunsparce design changes are enough to constitute an evolution then half of the megas could just be straight up evos too.

Point is that you can't say that Megas, which are an evolution beyond regular evolution is a fit for Pokemon that aren't even fully evolved is equal to a mechanic that's explicitly available for every Pokemon.

I know i want them to evolve, except for legends/mythicals, pseudos, and all 3rd stage megas.
Like, name a mon within my bounds that couldn't get an evo based off the mega it already had. Only one i can think is Steelix due to being an item+trade evolution, but maybe Onix would get a different evo based on Megalix

It's also a funny case where there is actually a solid reason to only get level-up evo later, because the entire reason why it's an item evolution is software update implementations. Advancing technology allowing for new-production Porygon with Upgrade coding pre-installed but being energy-intensive to run would be a fun way to have stat improvements exist in-universe while also implementing a "branch" via the most commonplace effort.
