Here's a Steel team - Empoleon defeats and checks fire type weaknesses. Forretress is a relatively solid defensive wall that avoids being taken out by fighting or ground types. It's super weak to fire, but that's what we have Empoleon for.
The other four round things out and give us some good STABs and overall coverage.
But you can cover weaknesses with pretty much any type.
