That stopped being an excuse with the Switch. They were not stuck on a handheld. Tears of the Kingdom is on the same system and not only looks better but does not run like shit. PLA, while also looking like shit it atleast runs well compared to S/V.

We(I) excused it because they were on the GB/GBC/GBA/DS/3DS. Shitty handheld systems. Not only that, but not all pokemon games looked like shit for their time. The ones not on a portable console.

1. Yes they do look better. 2. PS1 games are 20+ years old, almost 30, was some of the first 3D software for a full generation. A game almost 28 years later shouldn't look like a PS1 game on any level unintentionally

I can't fathom why it wasn't the blueprint for BDSP. Playing BDSP I just keep thinking back to LGPE and asking why they didn't just do it like that again visually. It captures the spirit perfectly.

That's unfair. Megaman Legends is a top tier kino cult classic. It leveraged the shitty texture filtering of ps1 by using extremely stylized textures with long runs of constant colors. It's one of the prettiest open world games ever made for its time.
