overcharge protection is a meme, what ends up happening is that your phone stops charging at 100%, trickles away a bit, then recharges, over and over again all night long
it will cause your battery to degrade and your phone to generate heat, don't buy into insidious marketing hype that convinces people to fuck their battery life

Many people do but that doesn't mean anything. Leaving a phone plugged in at max charge is not something you should do. Hell, keeping a battery at full charge is not something you should do because it drastically increases the chance of it exploding though most phone drones are glued to their devices so often that this part is largely not an issue.

Majority of phones learn your sleep/work patterns and slow charge to be 100% when you normally get up. Example for me would be when I plug in mine it'll say "Phone will be 100% by 5:45am" Because that's when I wake up for work. If your phone is from 2003, you might have an issue. But not anything within the last 10 years.

Your battery is not going to explode from keeping it plugged in if it is a modern device that isn't some cheap chinese e-scooter.

You do degrade how much of a charge your battery can hold over time more rapidly however by keeping it at 100% all the time.
There were some devices I have owned that provided the option to max charging out at 80%, kind of annoying its so rare to have that option.

Its meant to be directed at people charging e-bikes and e-scooters, which have massive batteries and are also built like cheap shit very often, NYC has had a big problem with those recently starting fires.

This is false and dribbled out of your asshole accidentally, I presume.
What ACTUALLY happens is that when your phone displays '100% charged' it's actually lying to you and '100%' covers a big fat overcharge range so that it can manage this without you knowing to avoid the retarded up-and-down charging you describe.

charge cycles will still take its toll normally.
My phone is 4 years old, I have no plans on getting a new one because I sitll like it, but my battery is now 60% of what it used to be.
