I haven't played a Pokémon game since SV. Sometimes I hop on my SoulSilver save for the memories and do a few rematches and explore but that's it.

Yesterday I beat 1st encounter Giovanni with a team in the lvl 30-32 range. His team was mid 40s with a lvl 48 Nidoking ace. Beat it with my lvl 30 Luxswan, went kinda overkill with the setup but got 6x Sand Attack, 3x Swords Dance setup.
It was a very fun fight with a satisfying finish. My starter got its final evo immediately after.

Thinking about playing through emerald with mons I've never used in that game before. I'm debating on whether I should take the time to breed another Lotad for egg moves like Leech Seed and Water Gun.

The new Rocket section he added before Olivine gym is actually great for breaking up the speed you get two badges at. The bump to stats also give me good reason to keep using utility moves and not just spam strong attacks
