>>54168990>Is Lugia on the way out?Nah, the Lugia-Archeops engine is very strong and it will keep being a deck until those 2 cards rotate. On top of that it's very adaptable since it can play any special energies and any mons that those can power up. Right now it's lacking in consistency, but it's just 1 search option away from coming back on top of the meta.
>Where does the complexity come in?I think for playing it's mainly 3 axes:
- Proper sequencing, since there's a lot of search and draw effects
- Prize mapping, ie knowing what mons you will need to ko to take your 6 prizes and knowing which one you're fine with giving away on your side
- Deducing which 6 cards are prized and knowing how it will impact your gameplan
Of course you can still get fucked by a coinflip and some matchups are straigh up unwinnable if opponent doesn't brick, but that's where deckbuilding comes in. Right now it's quite luck-dependent since going first is such a big advantage and the fact that turn 2 onward you're expected to take a ko every turn, but hopefully the meta changes soon.
>Not sure what it’s like against people who have 1000s of hours playingGardevoir and lostbox mostly, with some Arceus. Those decks aren't "unfun" but they gatekeep a lot of decks from being viable. Gardevoir's ability to nuke anything makes tanky builds and most multi-prizers useless, and lostbox destroys any deck built around low-hp mons. Everything is winnable though, thanks to the variance brought by the prize mechanic.
