I'm fairly certain I heard Masuda was one of the few people at early Game Freak with a Computer Science degree, which would put him as one of the few people who knows what the fuck he's doing. This would also mean that during the big development shakeup midway through GS's development, he was the only one capable of getting a software development project remotely on track. Reminder that it took Tajiri like 5 fucking years to get RG in a reasonable state for release, and GS was probably going to end up taking longer before Pokemania hit and shit got serious. I'm not surprised he got to where he is now given made a lot of the decisions he did, he's arguably a better businessman than somebody who designs games to be fun. Say what you will about XY (it's mediocre) but it's more well directed than fucking anything Ohmori has done as a piece of software, and also has every Pokemon at the time on top of being released at the same time worldwide. Ohmori just seems like he wishes he were working on a completely different JPRG, and I've said before just let him make his shitty version of Xenoblade or whatever, let somebody else take the wheel. Iwao isn't perfect, but at least I can see a coherent theme when he directs a game, or at least one that isn't "this is my waifu say something nice about her".
