How are we feeling about Terastal phenomenon? I still think it looks dumb as fuck visually with the stupid shit on Pokemon's heads, but its interesting mechanically.

Terastal is cool on paper but in practice it just makes it so the primary meta shifts that occur are in Tera types of the same Pokemon, we saw it in ranked season 1 with Dondozo bouncing around between flying steel and dragon depending on what was prevalent to counter it

It's been surprisingly "healthy" for VGC even if it does look stupid.
I like that the meta can shift around what types to bring on your team based on current counters, and it's led to a much less "solved" meta than prior generations.
At the same time the grind for tera crystals to put Showdown teams into real practice is worse than rubbing my taint on sandpaper.
I homebrewed an old switch LITERALLY just for this gen's VGC. I could tolerate the grind in SwSh but this is just frustrating.

Basically this. I think it's a good way to solve the Hidden Power problem (ie: everyone hacking to get the perfect HP IVs) and adds a little more fun to the mix.

Mechanically, it's fine. I just hate the fact that grinding for Tera shards is straight up torture, and 50 shards just to change a Pokemon's Tera type is a bit much.

I can say after having tried it and found a way to enjoy it for what it is, Dynamaxing was the best gimmick, gameplay wise. I like how easily it let a bunch of different pokemon set terrains and weathers. Terrastilizing a lot of the time just does come down to random guessing and I don't like that.

Forgot to mention, though I may still prefer megas ultimately because if they had continued making megas from the time they became a thing until now, we would have like four times as many of them, so there's no possible way to know how awesome that could have been. In conclusion, I think megas are the best and the only gimmick that's actual cool, then dynamaxing, then terrastilizing, and honestly z moves were straight up the only gimmick I would actually prefer not to be there at all.

Skill issue, watch any top VGC player commentary and they always carefully account for all possibilities and rarely get dunked on by something random. Most Pokemon only have a few teras they usually use and after experience you get used to how people play them.

Absolutely mogs the shit out of Megas, Z-Moves, and Dynamax from a mechanic standpoint. From a visual standpoint I’d score it under Megas (there’s a couple decent ones) and Gmaxes (I like more of them than Megas but the red filter can work against it) but it’s far less cringey than Z-Moves (hats > dances and embarassingly stiff animations)

Watch as the DLC lowers the 50 shards to 20, but put the remaining 30 into the super-special and mandatory for VGC Crys-Terastal forms.

Its a ton of fun in showdown but I'd provably hate to use it in the actual games, with all the grinding and glitches you have to suffer through to get a decent tera and how ugly it looks.

Tera is at least less omnipresent than Dynamax, but still, the fact the modern gimmicks don't even require a held item opportunity cost means they define every fucking battle.l when I really just wish I could ignore them and also see fewer battles using them.

Megas could either look terrible or super cool, and were kinda cancerous gameplay-wise

Z-moves look silly and are overall just kinda boring

Dynamax looked like shit but Gigantamaxes were dope. Still the worst out of the three mechanics gameplay-wise

Terastal is pretty fun gameplay-wise but looks almost as silly as Z-moves. Hopefully the special Tera Forms in the DLC can salvage it in the aesthetics department
