How difficult is the Emerald Battle Frontier?

I wanna attempt it. Do I need to breed for pokémon with perfect IVs?

destiny knot didn't work in that gen so you should get superior or outstanding and a perfect IV stat

a perfect mon is for competition and can take a dozen hours to get in early gen

I have only done some of Platinum's Battle Frontier, and I would say no, but avoid poor IVs if you can. Natures, EVs, Moves and held items are far more important, as is the pokemon you choose.

You do not need to breed for Pokemon with better IVs, in fact in most cases you are better off getting a Pokemon with a good nature through Synchronize in Emerald and rolling for good stats that way.
You definitely do not want to lose out by getting 0 IVs however

Right, I mean you are probably not going to do this for a Pokemon with a 5% chance to appear or one that doesn't normally appear in Emerald.

most people use swampert/latios/metagross because they're good for every facility and easy to soft reset for good natures and IVs

I want to try the Battle Frontier with the pokémons I like rather than what's best.

Magmar, Kingdra and a physical attacker I haven't decided yet.

shitmar is pretty bad
kingdra is good with swift swim and rain dance
metagross, salamence, gyarados, and slaking are good physical attackers accessible in emerald

My jolly outstanding beedrill's movepool is x-scissor/ poison jab/ aerial ace / brick break

I use a mawile with swords dance /pain split/ attract/ and baton pass to buff the beedrill to sweeper status

It feels better to win with a pokemon you like rather than some gross blob IMO

If you're willing, learn RNG manipulation to het good mons, otherwise just get a 31 in Speed and whatever attacking stat you'll be using and try to have above 15 in everything else. Neutral nature or better. Keep in mind your roamer will have guaranteed 0s in every stat except HP and Attack if you're playing RS or FRLG.

You can do whatever you'd like, just keep in mind that the deeper you go into the tower the stronger the opponent's Pokemon are going to be. Magmar is fine for an in game run but you might get frustrated when (or even if) you start going up against teams like Latias/Metagross/Houndoom.

I tried it a few years ago. I got all silver symbols. Only got like 4 gold symbols.

Its possible without hacking in perfect mons but barely and you need great strats and probably need to use RNG manips. Check out wersters run of beating emerald + battle frontier in 19 hours.

It was extremely brutal and time consuming. I even modded my gba with the gbaaccellerator chip to grind through the frontier quicker.I'll probably go back soon and try the factory again.

I got all the Silver Symbols. Wasn't as difficult as I thought except for Battle Factory. It's literally impossible to hold a streak in Factory unless you get a great team every turn.
Getting gold will be a lot harder though

Good ivs are nice but you absolutely should focus down EVs and nature. Since you're on emerald you could go RNG manipulate a Lati twin after glitzer popping an eon ticket or just cheat one in

I beat it completely vanilla, using Latias (SHIT IVs), metagross and milotic. Natures were all optimal, and I did reset/breed for IVs on the last two, however they only had 1-2 perfect IVs each on their relevant stats

got all the gold symbols once with an in-game team of starmie, machamp, alakazam and an exploding golem I used in certain battles (it is great for anabelle and the pyramid dude)

Your first problem is that Magmar and Kingdra aren't that fast (without Rain Dance) and they aren't very bulky either. Latios blows you the fuck out currently. The third pokemon definitely needs to be something bulky like Metagross, however Metagross isn't particularly fast either.
I think Magmar/Kingdra/Metagross can beat a few facilties like Pike and Arena, maybe Dome too. Palace is always a coinflip. I don't know about the harder places like the Tower.
