It should have probably just been an aura with the typing displayed next to the other pokemons health bar (since it'd probably be hard to tell rock from ground and such)

I wouldn't mind the extra type-props, if there were some more 'natural' choices. Not sure if it would be too complicated, but, it would be nice to have maybe 3 prop choices per type? And, not necessarily head-based 'hats'. Pic related

examples (can anyone post more?)

Flying: Balloons, or wings, or wind swirls around the Pokemon
Fire: Gay candelabra, or floating fire balls, or fire crown
Poison: Skull, or mushrooms, or bubbling ooze around the Pokemon
Steel: Axe in the head, or floating steel shields, or iron plates
Rock: Athens on your head, or literally anything else

I wouldn't say it makes the top sweepers more broken because, for example Dragonite on its own isn't the greatest contender, but with Tera Normal it turns the win condition from straightforward to something that could be delayed and taken advantage of for mind games. Though tbf online most people don't risk it and immediately press the button. I only really see people delaying Tera against high level opponents at regionals.

Pretty much all gimmicks are “rich get richer” . Megas were mostly just wasted on Pokémon that didn’t need them, z-moves were a nothing burger, dynmaz was broken garabage. At least changing type is interesting. Though maybe balance it by only letting dual types keep in of their previous STABs
