In SM the area is mostly a straight line with no obstacles or trainers to battle. USUM actually added in trainers, extended the area with new sections like the place where you encounter Necrozma, added in obstacles like boulders for Machamp to push and the only thing that was removed was the battle against Hau in front of the league building.
The SM Mount Lanakila is arguably even less of a victory road than SwSh’s route route 10 since at least that has trainers.

What does any of that have to do with being from Kanto? That's the equivalent of saying every game panders to Kanto because they have Pokemon that were also in Kanto.
The fact of the matter is you would NEVER see shit like this shoved into the game prior to Gen 7. Anything that "references" a previous game was always somewhat naturally woven into the game design, but nowadays they don't even try anymore and just use Kanto/Charizard as buzzwords to make basedboys froth at the mouth. It's lame and you should feel lame for trying to justify it.
