>>54156730>inb4 you post a 1st ed shining cardI don't think this would be a disingenuous comparison. 1st Ed Shining cards or neo Lugia or Base Charizard or whatever else are pretty exceptional in the same way cards like Giratina V or Moonbreon are, right? It's not the case the majority of modern "chase" cards are worth much of anything (you're generally lucky to have a single $100+ card in a set, and price typically drops off steeply after that one valuable card).
I'd actually say we ought to look mainly at 1st edition cards to make the comparison more analogous to begin, since it's not as though vintage had these ludicrous 1/2000 cards, and 1st eds were the "premium" rare product back in the 90s, early 2000s. If we're looking at 1st editions, suddenly we see most sets have multiple $100+ cards. And even then, almost all holos come with serious premiums depending on condition. So for even the most overprinted sets (Jungle, for instance), if you're looking at PSA 8s or 9s, practically every holo rare is worth more than $100, sometimes much more.
I don't know, I think these kinds of comparisons are a bit specious to begin with. It's kind of apples to oranges. Condition doesn't really enter into modern; there are no 1st eds; vintage doesn't have any cards with ludicrously low pull rates; one market has next to no historical data to draw on; etc.
