I'm a bit confused anon which game copied it? Since no other villain in the series is a mob boss outside of gen 2 which is a continuation of the plot from gen 1. And gen 1 didn't have any final showdown involving the box legendary like gens 3-9 did. So I'm not seeing where the plot is copied.

FRGL aren't Kanto pandering as they are remakes of the game intended to allow one to complete the pokedex. Gen 7 doesn't have this issue thus no reason to have the gen 1 starters.

Yeah sure it was definitely Kanto pandering, but IMO it was super cool to be able to choose from a second set of starters.
Same thing with PLA. You choose between Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott in the beginning, but then you can go out and catch the OG Sinnoh starters.
Would love to see more opportunities to play with multiple starters.

That's okay because the rest of the games (including gameplay) are so different: Exdeath is different enough from Golbez who is different enough from The Emperor who are nothing like Xande etc. In pokémon the rest of the games (including gameplay) are still very similar.
