Mesprit can't walk on those little nubs. Gengar was clearly designed to walk on the ground, and only kept Levitate because they didn't want to break the pattern that Gastly and Haunter set up.

Cursed body is a really good ability(though levitate might had been better for gengar), you are just a timmy and afraid of other timmys using earthquake.

Effect on contact abilities are much better on bulky mons with healing that can force multiple rolls to activate them (like Galarian Corsola even though it sucked nigger dick overall). A frail Pokémon like Gengar would very much rather have a immunity ability, or even better a power boosting ability of some sort.
