Absol is a perfect design with a very good dex entry and lore. It is my favorite pokemon.

Because like blaziken it was actually intended to be one. Initially it was even planned as the true star for the jirachi movie. And blazikens design was initially very close to latios. For a lot of people including me it was just way to confusing how they changed from before the release of rs to what actually became of them in the games.

Pre rs there were some scrapped leaked marketing pages advertising it as the first starter that is also a legendary. Would be interesting what beame of sceptile and swampert if they really pulled of the legendary starter idea. Torchics initial design looked way more powerful and epic too.

Beta Legendary Starter Blaziken. Up to gen 3 the beta versions of pokemon were officially used for marketing in the pre-release time of games. Sometimes during summer vacation I even found some official toys of beta pokemon. Marketing strategies used to be way different in the past...

I think the idea was they'd act like thrusters in the air and legs to land on, which is neat in concept. I do agree though, we're better off with the final product.

I'm shamed to admit this, but I only began liking Absol after seeing Mega Absol in Gen 6
Some thing about the old art and sprites just didn't ring until they swapped to 3d models in Gen 6, where it suddenly looks so much cuter and fluffy, it even has a little smile
