B) Leon and his brother Hop are from Postwick, which is based on Wales. Pic related is the Flag of Wales. Leon owning a Charizard is referencing the Welsh Dragon.

Or GF could have made a brand new Pokemon that represents that better? What does that say about Gen 8 where the champion cant use any Gen 8 Pokemon as an ace because they arent marketable enough? GF just didn't give a shit anymore and doesnt care to hide the shilling.

I'm not at all justifying it, I'm just saying that's why they did it. Big red dragon was an easy excuse to throw in the marketable Kanto (not)dragon.
