The games are trash now, as we all know. As products get worse, whether they be movies, comic books, video games, whatever, they start to become more one dimensional and more extreme as they run out of ideas. In Pokemon, you can see this with the monster designs, but also with the NPCs.
I'm not picking on gen 5 when I say the first instance of this is with Colress. What the fuck is with his hair? What is that dumb fucking blue thing? It's retarded. But he was "supposed" to seem weird, so whatever.
However, it only got worse with gen 6 and onward. I don't even remember the characters' names but the appearances and hairstyles got progressively more, for lack of a better word, anime. 90s-00s anime specifically, like Yugioh shit.
Having more browns is just them running out of ideas. "What haven't we done before...? Oh, let's make this character brown, that's new!" And then they do it a million more times and suddenly most of the game is brown. It's probably a mix of that and ESG kikery. Sorry but it's true.
Coincidentally, going back to gen 5 I believe Lenora was the only black character they respected and actually wanted to make. The rest are just brown to be brown.
