Yes, he obviously wasn't the reason the series used to be good, but he isnt the reason it is bad either. The reason is a larger, complex one and we'd love to point the blame on one specific person or event, but the reality is the franchise simply grew out of gamefreak into some blob I don't really care for anymore, watching the presents and there's just nothing here recognizable of the pokemon I fell in love with, the culture has shifted and despite the games being literally unfinished since the jump to 3D, fact of the matter is they're selling far far better than they were at their peak quality, whatever business model they have is clearly working and it's at the cost of longtime pokemon fans.
