When I thought it was an Applin variant I was underwhelmed but interested in its potential. Then it said it was an evolution and I became angry at the waste of the time and energy used to make yet another grass/dragon shitmon.

The actual dragon inside Dipplin loots pretty different than the little wyrm inside Applin, more like Flapple really. It just never ate the apple, so I guess it works. Yeah, that's the problem with Dipplin. There's a lot of ways to depict that there's two worms inside of it, but the way they chose to illustrate makes it just seem like the worm inside of it got longer rather than a second one having moved in.

This. I literally said out loud during the trailer 'Oh a Paldean Applin!' and was down for that. I think the idea of a small Pokémon evolving into a near-identical and also-small Pokémon just doesn't work.
