There are some good episodes of BW, namely the ones with the rivals. Outside of those BW is trash, and you are correct that modern Irisfags arrived with JN.

The people who didn’t put Ash on a pedestal didn’t care she calmed him a kid. Ash was some people’s self insult and Iris was that girl that either hated being around them or refused too and she was a constant reminder.

Irisfags existed back then, but back then, every fucking one hated and shat on Iris 24/7 and the BW anime as a whole so they had no recourse but to shut the fuck up and huddle on their own little corner wary and scared of everyone and everything. They had nothing to latch on to be able to argue against or fight back. They were a minority within a minority.
Not even Iris becoming Champion in BW2 helped them because Games =/= Anime and they couldn't be any more different.
So as you can imagine, Shitneys making Iris a Champion, gave them all the validation they desperately sought, they were finally given a "weapon" with which to fight back. Now? Now they can play the victim, they were martyrs, all their suffering was "rewarded".
Personally, I would be offended if my favorite character was subject to such shoddy writing but if Irisfags had any standards then they wouldn't be Irisfags in the first place.
It's honestly downright embarrassing to watch.

Except there was nothing actually conflicting about game Iris and anime Iris hence why they adapted it in the first place. A goal of becoming Dragon Masters or whatever she wanted doesn’t conflict with being a Champion. She’s now a Champion that uses Dragons.

Rushed execution yea but there wasn’t anything in the source material contradicting her being able to achieve the title.

Do not like or dislike her. As far as the Iris vs Cynthia battle. It was extremely logical who was winning that battle form the jump. Cynthia and Leon are the defecato Champions of Generation Eight. Iris just debuted as Champion at the wrong time and because of that her fate was set because they weren't going to allow Ash to leave this series without fighting the two Champion stars of this series.

Tie into the fact that Cynthia used Mega Evolution while Iris for some reason didn't utilize any of the other three gimmicks, she was for sure going to lose. Excadrill tanking those back to back supper effective attacks, Haxorus one shooting Milotic and putting up a good fight despite it being a losing effort tells me that she at least has grown battling wise and makes it more believable she defeated Alder at some point. She still needs more experience but she at least went down with a fight.
