The member card and oak's letter at least tell you where to go, but the azure flute doesn't. Apparently many kids had trouble getting through mount coronet, I remember I had some trouble remembering how to get to spear pillar as a kid, so I guess I can see how kids wouldn't have figured it out on their own.
