>>54274599Mew was newly discovered, so yeah, I suppose the only way to reconcile things with Mewtwo's dex entry is to assume that scientists were working with gene splicing before Mew's discovery, messing with other species' DNA, trying to make chimeras or something. That makes more sense to be described as "horrific" because of the nature of the experiments, and also because the
>torture of Mewis never indicated in the games to have happened. I think it's safe to assume that Mew had genetic samples taken from it, said samples were replicated and altered, and then Mew was artificially inseminated with the altered DNA, giving birth to Mewtwo. None of this is necessarily torturous.
However, you mention
>Those failures resulted in either miscarriages or creatures that died shortly after birth (or Ditto, if you want to believe that).Man, the Ditto theory is really fucking cool, and if it's as much of a coincidence as Masuda(?) said it is, then it's really a pretty incredible one. It's really too bad that all of the evidence that supports it is circumstantial and denied by the devs. I think it might be the only piece of fanon that I'm willing to accept because it just makes too much sense.
At any rate, the only way I figure that Mew could have been tortured during experimentation is if one assumes that the Ditto theory is true, because there's just not much else to go on officially. If we go by official word that the Ditto theory is false, then the years of horrific experimentation mentioned in Mewtwo's dex entry must be talking about ones prior to Mew's discovery, as again we run into the date problem in the Pokemon Mansion journals. The way they're written, I just don't buy that the journal's entries span more than 14 months.
