Set is a much better way of learning the type match-up as mastering switch-ins and pivotting involves learning the type chart fully, which includes both type effectiveness and resistances.
For instance, I was able to learn that Rock types don't resist Bug type attacks and have to be wary when sending a Rock pokemon to tank a powerful Bug attack. With Set mode you can learn better and apply what you have learnt more proactively and the decisions you made have real consequences
