Still he's an enormous dumbass though, and badly needs to be pulled aside and told both how to apologize and to stop trying to be funny because he really is cruisin for a bruisin. "I'm sorry you feel that way" smells like echolalia to me. He 100% heard that somewhere and liked the way it sounded, not realizing it's can actually be an asshole thing to say in some cases. Even the cadence he uses is consistently smug. I bet if someone watched every episode of Pokemon and MLP you could find an asshole character saying that line exactly like that. I've worked with a bunch of guys just like him and he's probably a nice guy, just terminally autistic.
