Hello /vp/. It’s been a long time since I’ve lurked here regularly, but I feel compelled to just get my thoughts out here now that they’re coming to me. I’ve been reminiscing on the fandom recently, and it lead me to trudging up some memories. Memories of a certain feel pokemon fan content used to have in the past. As well as tangental communities like anime at the time, and fandom culture in general. Back during the early to mid 2010’s, it all just had this strange utopic atmosphere about it. One that was a collective dream, a product of a peculiar demographic of people in a certain point in time and space. An ignorant fantasy were all one’s ideals could come true without any of the messy reality. Of gleaming cities in harmony next to immaculate nature. Of glory and gain and adventure coexisting alongside stable modernity. Of relationships full of expression and brotherhood, companionship and animalistic simple minded unconditional care for one another. Where the good guys are always your side and always win in the end in conflicts with little nuance and complexity. And any other competition is souly honorable duels powered by merit, character, and good sportsmanship. A world full of melodramatic characters who all have a dream their chasing with passion and optimism.
I can’t remember exactly when, but at some point that all seemed to fade away. Another phantasmagorical dream of the web, a sleeping gods patchwork mind, slipping into faded memory. It makes me think of the internet, with all its thousands of little interconnected story’s and worlds, will it all just be forgotten? Even just a few decades from now? Will any records of what it was like to be in such a strange time and place simply go unkept?
