Freeze is broken, that's exactly why it's the only status that doesn't have a move that inflicts it.

It's basically sleep but better. Sleep is guaranteed to only last a few turns, a Pokemon only has 20% chance to thaw out each turn.

Freeze is already redundant, Sleep does everything it wants to much more reliably. There's multiple moves and abilities that induce thawing that will never likely see usage in a normal playthrough because freezing is so uncommon.

I'd rather see freeze redesigned to be exactly one turn, and any attack against a frozen target breaks them out, but is a guaranteed crit. Now freeze is basically just a flinch that doesn't require you to go first, and has counterplay in that you can switch a frozen pokemon out, then switch them in on a resisted move for a free thaw or self target in a double battle with a faster teammate to skip the frozen turn.

Because its not supposed to be a defensive type, brainiac. It's got a top tier offensive profile, and offensive ice types excel, often to the point of being broken. Anyone saying the type is bad doesnt play the game.

The problem with Ice Type is that its an offensive type slapped on a lot of defensive pokemon. If said defensive ice pokemon could dish it out and more importantly take it, there's no problem. But a lot of these fuckers are so slow and minmax into defense while having a gaping hole in Sp. Def that they get clapped in seconds by any pokemon with a special type attack. Its not the type chart that's the problem, since everyone wants an ice type move in their kit, but how many pokemon don't have the necessary skills to pull off an ice tank. It doesnt help that Ice Type is such a lategame type too where those gimmicks may or may not fall over near the end of the singleplayer campaign.

Meanwhile, pokemon like Weavile and Chien-Pao were or are le competitive meta, and pokemon like Lapras and Walrein had more balanced defenses, a very generous HP pool and a good dual typing in water so they could actually play the part of tank. And then you have stupid shit like Aurorus with the most dogshit defensive typing in every game trying to play tank and Avalugg that halfasses its defenses by DOOMPING Def and leaving nothing for Sp. Def.

But if you want the worst, most terrible type in almost every game, its Rock. It's everything wrong with ice except its weaker, misses all the fucking time and Ground type does its job better

Snow is superior in every possible way.
Nobody ever used hail outside of meme teams whereas snow is a respectable competitive archetype.
Having chip damage on hail means that you have to fully commit to the shittiest type in the game and lose the luxury of running sash, the most important defensive item in the game.
With snow you get plenty of very useful benefits but if you have to switch out your Abomasnow/Bundle/whatever it's not a big deal because its effect is neutral at worst.
Chip damage is also part of the reason why sand and Tyranitar are declining. Fully dedicated weather teams are an obsolete concept, even trick room is starting to get used in a less dedicated way.

Yes it does. If you activate hail but then have to use your non-ice Pokemon all you did was fucking yourself over by reducing the durability of your defensive core (I seriously hope you're not running an ice type one) and reducing your sash options.

If it was you'd have to be an idiot not to run light clay on a defensive set since aurora veil is the only reason to build it like that.

If you're switching out of your own hail instead of sweeping chances are that you don't hold the momentum. Inflicting extra chip damage on the Pokemon you're switching into is a big disadvange, this is why entry hazards are popular. In the current gen they're starting to appear even in 3v3 and 4v4 formats.

Only a tiny selection of those benefit from hail, which is why hail shouldn't be the core of your team. I say this as someone who uses a G-Slowking + Bundle core in BSS.

Ice is a Defensive thing. It's brittle but hard at the same time, just like the type. It works well.

The fact they gave most water type ice attacks was a mistake, and the fact there is no icy terrain that slows down non ice types.is also weak. I would also make snow weather work as gravity for flying types.

Because Ice sucks at defense. Having 4 weaknesses and only 1 resistance just doesn't work for a defensive pokemon.
If they want to make ice a defensive typing they really need to give it more resistances. Or less weaknesses.
